The Buddleja saligna, commonly known as the False Olive or Olive Buddleja, is a fast-growing, evergreen tree native to southern Africa. This hardy species thrives in a wide range of habitats, from coastal regions to inland savannas, often growing on rocky outcrops, ridges, and sandy soils. It is well-adapted to drought conditions, making it a valuable tree in water-scarce environments.

Typically reaching heights of 5 to 10 meters, Buddleja saligna has a slender trunk and a rounded crown with gracefully arching branches. The bark is pale grey and rough, often flaking in patches, adding to its ornamental appeal. The narrow, lance-shaped leaves resemble those of an olive tree, hence the common name “False Olive.” These leaves are dark green on top and silvery-grey underneath, creating a striking contrast.
